The osteopath will be able to assess the extent of these problems and provide effective treatment, including recommending orthotics.
Osteopathy in Action works in consultation with Andrew Root (BSc, DpodM, MChs, SRCh) to specialise in the assessment and treatment of foot problems. Andrew is a foot podiatrist whose expertise lies in the area of biomechanical foot assessments and makes ‘made to measure’ orthotics.
Here at Osteopathy in Action you will have a comprehensive assessment of your feet with you in standing, sitting and non weight bearing positions. This will be related to your posture and alignment of your ankles, knees, hips and back. This may also involve ‘video gait analysis’ in which you would be filmed walking or running on a treadmill. All results will be fully explained and discussed.
If orthotics are recommended, the osteopath will take a mould of each foot using plaster of paris. This will capture the exact shape and the fit of your foot and is therefore accurate in ensuring correct angle and maximum shock absorption. This will be sent to Andrew Root who will make your individual orthotics and return them to Osteopathy in Action.
The main function of moulded orthotics is to correct body alignment and increase shock absorption thereby helping reduce ankle, knee, hip and lower back pains, especially if the feet ‘roll inwards’ during walking and running . For many people moulded orthotics are invaluable in reducing shock and maintaining straight walking and running. This improves body posture and lessens the stress on the knees, hips and in the back.
